Password / Passphrase Generator

A password a person has to live with: a Diceware passphrase drawn from the 7,776-word EFF list, or a character password over an alphabet chosen for keyboards and site policies. Every draw is rejection-sampled from a CSPRNG, and the bit-count shown next to it is the honest one.

Every word is an independent uniform draw from the list, so the bits add up with nothing to correct.

Separator

Words are joined with a full stop. A hyphen cannot be used: four words in the list are hyphenated compounds, so the word boundaries — and with them the word count and the bit-count — would stop being readable. A full stop also survives shell substitution, selects as one word on a double-click, and is one syllable when read aloud.

Privacy

Generated locally in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent to the server.

The value lives only in this tab: no database, no logs, no analytics, no URL, no local storage. Refreshing the page discards it. The command line below is the exception — a curl request is answered by the server, so that value crosses the network under TLS and exists briefly in server memory.

From the command line

The same URL answers curl with the value alone — one line, one newline, nothing to strip. A bare request returns a six-word passphrase; mode=chars switches to the character generator. There is no way to ask for more than one at a time, on purpose: picking the nicest of ten is a choice, and a choice is not a uniform draw.
